What Is Hepatology?
Procedures Performed by Hepatologists
Hepatologists have extensive training to perform a plethora of procedures related to the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. However, some are more common than others. At GI Specialists of Georgia, we're equipped to perform an array of operations, from everyday procedures to those that occur less frequently. Some of our most-performed procedures include:
- Transhepatic pancreato-cholangiography: This procedure involves using an x-ray to look for blockages in the bile ducts or liver.
- Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography: During this procedure, your hepatologist will evaluate the biliary tract and pancreas for signs of abnormalities or diseases.
- Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt: Your hepatologist will create an artificial channel between the portal and hepatic veins.
